Rich in History and Traditions the Outer Banks of North Carolina is One of the Most Unique and Beautiful Places in the World
Hi...I'm Lorilei and I'm an OuterBanker!!!
The Outer Banks are a chain of barrier islands that run parallel to the North Carolina mainland. We are surrounded by water on all sides including the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamlico, Currituck, Croatan, Albemarle and Roanoke sounds. People who live here are referred to as "Outer Bankers". I am lucky enough to have lived in eastern North Carolina my whole life and I am very excited to share our unique lifestyle as well as our never ending beauty with the rest of the world. So Come with Me to Where the South Meets the Sea!!!!
OuterBankers have a wonderfully unique lifestyle. Our offices are our boats, beaches and gift shops. Our views are of the Ocean, the Sounds, Lighthouses, serene maritime forest and shore birds swooping ever so gently in a long line just inches above the waves. Could OuterBankers live in the city? Maybe... for a short time...but we always come home! This is my son Mikey and I on my husbands Charter Boat. (Of course I'm married to a fisherman...who else would an OuterBanker be married to?) Others make their seaside memories on their vacations...we are lucky enough to be able to make our seaside memories everyday!
My husband is a Charter Boat Captain and over the years I have been asked many times "How should we cook our catch?" One of the reasons that I decided to do this website is to share all of my different recipes with others. My ancestors have been here since the 1600's and we have so many family recipes and traditions that have been passed down over the years. Our Southern roots combined with our abundance of fresh seafood has created a Culinary experience all of our own! This is my daughter Cookie and I partaking in an evening of fresh sushi! Of Course the Spicy Tuna Rolls are as fresh as you can get! After all the Tuna was caught right off of our shoreline!
Cooking for a Crowd? Don't want to buy a million ingredients? No problem! Some of these recipes can easily be doubled, tripled and even quadrupled. Most are simple with just a few ingredients to make a quick and easy meal. Stews, salads and grilled or baked seafood is probably your best bet for a group of people and the clean up will be a lot easier. Boiled Shrimp is a super easy one pot meal, as well.
No problem! Some of my recipes suggest sides that will go splendidly with any of your main dishes. This is a work in progress...I hope you will visit frequently to see everything that I am adding!!!
